RORO

RORO is an abbreviation for Roll-On/Roll-Off.
RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) ships are cargo ships designed to transport wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or with the assistance of a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter.

Self-propelled products, such as cars and tractors, roll on and off the vessel on their own wheels, as opposed to being lifted onboard using cranes.

CONTAINERIZATION

Containerization is an intermodal freight transport system that employs intermodal containers (also called shipping containers). The dimensions of the containers are consistent. They can be loaded and unloaded, stacked, efficiently transported over long distances, and switched from one mode of transport to another.

Containers can be made of a variety of materials, including steel, fiber-reinforced polymer, aluminum, or a combination of these. Weathering steel containers are used to reduce maintenance requirements.

SHIPPING BY RORO AND CONTAINER

When shipping vehicles overseas, especially motor vehicles, the two most common methods are RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) and container shipping. There are several distinctions between these two shipping methods; one of the distinctions that influences the decision between RORO and Container shipping is the cost.

RORO VS. CONTAINER SHIPPING: THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCES

The majority of shipping companies that offer Roll-on/Roll-off shipping also offer Container shipping and vice versa. The car must be in running condition to be shipped with RORO because it must be driven onto and off the ship. Container shipping involves storing the vehicle in an open or closed container that is loaded onto the ship. The car does not have to be in working order to be shipped via container.

RORO — NO PERSONAL BELONGINGS

The car owner is not permitted to ship their personal belongings with the car when using RoRo shipping. Container shipping, on the other hand, allows spare tires and other items to be shipped alongside the car. The customer can ship their furniture along with the vehicle, depending on the size of the container.

SET ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES

RORO shipping also ensures consistent departure and arrival dates, which Container shipping does not. Overall, RoRo is a better option if you meet the following criteria:

1. You require your vehicle to arrive as soon as possible.

2. Your vehicle is in good working order.

3. You are not transporting any personal items with the vehicles.

3. You are not transporting any personal items with the vehicles.
