The new year is just around the corner, and we know that you are wrapping it all up, dotting your ‘I’s and crossing your ‘T’s in preparation for the new business year.

As a business owner, it is important to take this time to renew your physical and mental strength and to plan. As the new year approaches, here are a few things you can do to prepare.

REST

Rest is underrated. As humans, we tend to work so much harder than we rest. We remember to recharge batteries but go too hard on ourselves, often leading to burnout. You need to recharge too, especially if you haven’t gotten enough rest over the year. It is okay to give your business your all; however, it is not healthy to work all year round. Your body needs rest for your mind to function productively. Ideas flow better when you are well-rested. So, take some time off. Walk on the beach. Visit family. Spend time with the people you love. Do what makes you feel at peace. Take a deep breath. Get some rest.

EVALUATION

Take a look at how the year went. Did you meet the year’s goals? How did your business do? What can you do better? What innovation can you introduce?

An evaluation will help you examine how far you have come from your goals, where you are headed and what you need to do to attain that end.

SET BUSINESS GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR

It is often said that you can’t do things the same way and expect a different result. If you need different results, then set different goals.

Take a look at your business needs, your vision and your business mission. Set new goals to accomplish the mission.

MAKE PRACTICAL PLANS

How much money do you need? Would you need to take a loan? How would you be able to repay the loan? Would you need to attend training conferences to develop yourself?

Itemize the plans and be realistic.

SET PRIORITIES

You might have so many things to accomplish at once and this can get overwhelming. Choose where you would like to start. Recognize your priorities and focus on them.

STRATEGIZE

Once you have set your goals and made your plans, you need to make strategies on how to implement the plans and achieve your goals. Itemize the order in which you would carry out these plans and figure out how you would address them.

Decide what “plan B” would be, in the event that “plan A” doesn’t quite go as you intend.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Remember why you began your business. Remember the fire you had in you. You can do it. Affirm to yourself that you can.
